Come join us for World Social Work Day 2017
Tuesday 21st March 2017, 11:00 – 14:00 – No booking required
Professionals and members of the public are invited to learn more about the field of Health and Social Care at a free event being held to mark World Social Work Day.
Hundreds are expected to attend the event, to be held at Poole’s Lighthouse on Tuesday 21 March from 11am – 2pm. Overseen by the Pan Dorset Academy of Health and Social Care and arranged by Borough of Poole and Bournemouth University, the event will see over twenty-five local and regional organisations from across Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset on hand to provide information and networking opportunities for both existing social care professionals and those interested in working in or studying the field.
As well as providing a host of information about health and social care, the event will also mark World Social Work Day. Instigated by the International Federation of Social Workers and held on the third Tuesday of March every year, events will be held worldwide to highlight the work of social care professionals and recognise the invaluable contribution they make to society. This year’s theme is ‘Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability’, and organisations attending will be showcasing related work.
Councillor Karen Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Health and Social Care, Borough of Poole, said: “Social care workers play a vital role in our community so it is great to see them given a chance to network and share best practice. It is set to be an informative and interesting event, with many people attending to celebrate this important sector and the work it does.”
Professor Keith Brown, Director of the National Centre for Post-Qualifying Social Work at Bournemouth University, said: “We would urge anyone with an interest in social care to come along and learn more from a wide range of local organisations. Social work can be a very rewarding career choice, and we look forward to meeting many like-minded attendees at the event.”
No booking is required for this event, which is free of charge – simply pop along on the day to find out more.
