  • Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council

These are exciting times at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP), with local government reorganisation representing significant opportunities for growth and transformation. We have an opportunity to make our thriving, world-class area a prosperous and inclusive place for generations to come.

Our vision is to create a place of aspiration where plans are made, and ambitions are achieved for all of our residents. We want to create a healthy and vibrant place where everyone feels a part of the future that BCP Council is creating and where our social workers and professionals can do their best work and have fulfilling careers.

There really is no better time to join what is one of the UK’s largest unitary authorities, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. For the right individuals, we can offer career defining roles to transform and improve services, ensuring the needs of our residents are understood and they are safe, independent, healthy and able to share in our positive vision.

Our roles provide challenging opportunities to develop professionally in a visually stunning area with great schools and an expanding University. Whilst we have a thriving local economy there are also pockets of significant deprivation with their associated social challenges. It is also a multi-cultural area serving a diverse population. We have developed some innovative ways of responding through our partnerships and by our services, but we need to do more to meet the complex challenges.

If you are committed, driven and have the ideas and passion to improve the quality of life for individuals and communities, then we want to hear from you.

Opportunities for social workers in Wiltshire

Whether your aspirations lie in children’s services or adult care, you can build a life that has real balance at Wiltshire Council. We are a positive and innovative place to work and bring a genuine can-do approach to everything we do. We have simplified our structures to ensure that our decisions are focused on our communities.  Protecting the vulnerable is one of our key priorities – help us achieve this.

We are innovating to create strong communities – we will empower you to share your ideas, to make suggestions and to help us find new solutions to old problems, whilst supporting you with the latest technology and encouraging collaboration with our communities, partners and colleagues. We don’t focus on limitations; we focus on opportunities and possibilities. In doing so, we’re perfectly placed to help you achieve your potential and enjoy a truly fulfilling career. And this means you’ll be able to empower our communities too, working collaboratively to help our residents live happier, healthier lives.

We provide placements for students on social work qualifying programmes in a wide range of settings right across the council. Our social workers at all levels are very keen to support students and ensure that they have a really positive experience with us.

We recruit newly qualified social workers every year and support them really well via a structured ASYE programme (which stands for assessed and supported [first] year in employment), excellent supervision, courses and other learning and development provision.

We support and develop our social workers to progress as experienced and advanced practitioners and they in turn provide excellent placements and supervision to students and NQSWs.
